The time of year is rapidly approaching for festive holiday gatherings and feasts. It can also be a very stressful time of the year. In more ways than one, you may find yourself in dire need of an alcoholic beverage, or at the least, needing to provide refreshment to many a guest. Better Dorms & ‘Partments has a few suggestions for you to spice up this holiday season with some new, original ideas for cocktails and shooters.
North Jersey Jackhammer
120 oz. Steel Reserve High-Gravity malt liquor
1 quart Woodchuck Cider
1 cup Black Velvet whiskey
Pour contents into large pot on low heat. Stir occasionally. Serve warm in mugs. Add oregano to taste. Makes eight servings.
“Turkey Bobby” Milkshake
Left-overs from Thanksgiving dinner, preferably in a ratio of:
1 part stuffing
2 part mashed potatoes
2 parts turkey, shredded or ground
1 part candied yams
1 part cranberry sauce
1 part Burnetts Cranberry vodka
1 part ice, crushed
Combine contents in blender. Mix for approximately 20 seconds on medium intensity. Serve chilled. Garnish with salt and pepper.
The Fat Bishop
1 oz. Sailor Jerry spiced rum, chilled
1 tsp. bacon grease, hot off of pan
Pour rum into shot glass. Pour grease on top and watch it form a milky film. Shoot. Goes well with breakfast.
Sangria To Die For
1 box Franzia Sunset Blush
1 box Franzia Fruity Red Sangria
10 Newcomb dining hall apples, aged at room temperature 2-4 weeks
1 bag frozen berry variety pack
1 pint human blood, type AB+
Place a large (~10 gallon) trash bag inside of a can. Remove bags of Franzia from boxes. Puncture small holes in each using a knife and squirt wine into trash bag. Crush apples and berries with hammer; dump into trash bag. Add blood to taste. Serves 2-4.
The Flaming Reindeer
½ oz. peppermint schnapps
½ oz. venison broth
1 tsp. grain alcohol
Pour peppermint schnapps and venison broth into shot class. Top with grain alcohol. Using a match, light the top of the shot and observe the blue flame. Shoot while flaming. A fine concoction to kick off a large all-male social gathering.
Sailor Ben N’ Jerry
1 can A&W root beer
2 scoops Ben & Jerry’s ice cream, preferably Phish Food or DMB’s One Sweet Whirled flavor
6 oz. Sailor Jerry spiced rum
1 oz. Kahlua
The ultimate root beer float. Mix rum and root beer in large glass. Add ice cream. Douse with Kahlua. Add whipped cream if desired.
The Gift That Keeps on Giving
40 oz. Steel Reserve High-Gravity malt liquor
1 cup heavy whipping cream
1 tbsp. cumin
1 tbsp. paprika
2 tbsp. cayenne pepper
1 habenero pepper, diced finely
A zesty yet surprisingly enticing concoction. Also a fine choice for large social gatherings. Consume approximately 8 oz. Steel Reserve High-Gravity malt liquor. In a separate cup, mix together cream and spices with whisk. After ingredients are blended together, pour mixture into Steel Reserve High-Gravity malt liquor bottle. Place cap on top of bottle and shake mixture until well-mixed. Chug.
The Best Gift Ever
750 mL Woodford Reserve bourbon
Place several cubes of ice in glass. Pour approximately 4 oz. bourbon on top. Enjoy. Repeat.
