Since a 7.0 magnitude earthquake devastated the country on January 12th, news stories of a devastated, displaced people, have occupied the collective conscience of an international audience. A little over a year ago, I found myself on a sixteen-hour plane ride journeying from Washington D.C. to Dhaka, Bangladesh. After sleeping through the flight over the Atlantic, my face plastered to the small plane window and my side digging into a swarthy British tourist, I was awakened by the sunrise over blinding white sand. Out of nowhere, tall buildings rushed up to dominate my field of vision, seemingly created in an instant out of the hot desert air.
