Since I wrote the preview for the Elephant 6 Holiday Surprise Tour, I kind of knew what to expect. I’m not sure if this was true for some of the audience. When most people think of the Elephant 6 collective, they think of the big names, mainly Neutral Milk Hotel and Of Montreal. However, there were many less well-known bands that were part of the collective that still contributed to the collective’s unique sound and attitude toward music. This is what the show focused on. Founded in the early 90s in Athens, Georgia, The Elephant 6 Recording Company was home to beloved psych-rock, psych-folk and lo-fi bands such as Neutral Milk Hotel, The Olivia Tremor Control, The Apples in Stereo, Of Montreal, Elf Power, Music Tapes, Beulah, and many others.
