The Sunday before Halloween the Jefferson was filled with overwhelming female charm as St. Vincent’s Annie Clark and opening singer/songwriter Cate Le Bon leaked sweet melodies into an eager crowd. Although most of the audience had never heard of Welsh darling Le Bon, her effortlessly graceful vocals floated over swaying heads, enveloping the crowd in a comfortable modern folk dream. Le Bon’s digital recordings don’t give her voice the credit it deserves. She has more than female vocalist appeal--hollow but warm, her vocals seem to seek only to please the ear of her listeners.Read more...
One of the more memorable moments (see the review of The Monk on this page, which I was also unfortunately at) of my experience at the Virginia Film Festival this past weekend was attending the screening of the American classic Badlands. After the movie ended I watched with the middling sort of awe brought on by famous people I should recognize immediately but don’t as Sissy Spacek and Jack Fisk (the lead actress and the art director respectively) trotted onto the stage to be interviewed by a chap from the festival.Read more...
On Friday, I caught up with the Peter Monroe, and Erin Anderson, respectively the director and star of the new film Days Together. Erin, after just winning "Best Actress" in the Gotham International Film Festival, and Peter, after a night of hard drinking, were both full of chuff to discuss the themes of this cinematic, impressionistic, meditation on a life in the modern world. So without further ado, here is the interview.
How did you guys first begin working together?
Peter: We went to college together at USC.
